White Cake
- Gayla Harvey
3/4 c Shortening
1 1/2 cups white sugar
3 eggs
3 tsp Baking Powder
3/4 tsp salt
2 tsp Vanilla
2 cups whole milk
Flour. 3 1/2 to 3 3/4 c
Mix the shortening and sugar until fluffy.
Add eggs and beat until smooth.
Stir in the vanilla put in half a cup of flour, baking powder and salt and mix well. Alternate the flour and the milk, stirring in until you’ve put in 3 1/2 cups of flour.
Now comes the tricky part the way to tell if this batter is what it’s supposed to be is you dip a big spoon in and turn it to the side and the batter plops off it doesn’t run off in
If you need to add more flour add 2 tablespoons at a time.

If you are using a cookie sheet, use shortening and flour on the pan.
Waxed paper fitted into a 9x13 cake pan works great.
Oven temp 350 degrees. Bake for about 40-45 minutes.
Watch and when it starts to get a pale brown on top check with a tooth pick.

My daughter used this recipe from her aunt, to make Strawberry Shortcake from scratch. She served it at a Mother's Day event, because it was her grandma's favorite dessert.
